Jägermeister is German for the Master of the Hunt. This was first created in the 7th century, a blend of herbs, fruits and spices. The label is part of an old tale of Saint Hubertus, who created the drink. After his wife died he walked to the woods to go hunting and saw a stag with a cross betwixt its antlers.
Produced in the town of Wolfenbuttel, Germany, Jagermeister is derived from 56 herbs, spices, fruits and roots from across the world the aged in enormous oak barrels. The traditional way to enjoy the dense liqueur is chilled in the freezer and then drunk from a shot glass.
Curt Mast, the original distiller of Jagermeister and son of the founder Wilhelm, was an enthusiastic hunter. The name when literally translated means "Master of Hunters". It is a title for a high-ranking official in charge of matters related to hunting. The term Jagermeister had existed as a job title for many centuries.
